This two-part concert will present the finest and most diverse aspects of the Belgian jazz scene. The Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Belgian's leading big band, will be uniting its powers with the superb saxophonist Philip Catherine, outstanding guitarist Bert Joris and the distinctive singer David Linx to wow the audience as they perform a programme compiled especially for the Bridging Europe festival.

It is no secret that Swedish double bass player Anders Jormin and American drummer Joey Baron are two of 2024/25 Artist of the Season Ferenc Snétberger's favourite musical partners.

Behind the ‘pop music in a time machine' concept are arrangements of familiar contemporary pop hits and golden-oldies that are swinged-, jazzed- and doo-wopped-up before being planted in Motown-sounding soul. This simple but wonderful idea is one that works perfectly.

Imre Kőszegi belongs to the first generation of musicians in Hungary who were allowed to approach modern jazz as a self-contained genre, independent of entertaining dance music. His playing was most influenced by bebop and free jazz.

Szabó Magda a világon a legismertebb modern magyar író, könyveit 43 nyelvre fordították le. Az ajtó című regényét 1987-ben írta. A regényt megjelenése óta közel 40 nyelvre fordították le, alkotóját 2003-ban a francia Femina-díjjal tüntették ki, Szabó István 2012-ben filmet forgatott belőle Helen Mirren főszereplésével. A regényből készített adaptációkat sikerrel játsszák a színházak is.

Egy egyszerű, méltóságát őrző, élete borzalmait magába záró öregasszony és a sikeres művész, Szabados Magda szeretet-küzdelme mitikus mélységet nyer az önostorozó őszinteséggel feltárt történetben. „Én öltem meg Emerencet. Ezen az se módosít, hogy nem elpusztítani akartam, hanem megmenteni” – mondja regénybeli írónő, Szabados Magda. A hétköznapi látás számára meg nem mutatkozó lelki dimenziókat tár fel ez a nyomozás, amit a saját maga ellen indít az írónő és emeli Emerencet az emberi méltóság balladai hősnőjévé.

Dávid Lamm has been on the lam. Which should come as no surprise. Who hasn't been affected by the 2020s and the dispiriting multitude of global catastrophes? A musician, at least, can find refuge in the world of sound. Lamm duly created a new project by the name of Skidaddle.
