It has almost become a tradition for the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra to start its Academy of Music season with its art director and world-renowned cellist István Várdai, to be conducted by Gábor Takács-Nagy this time, who has long had close professional ties with the orchestra. It is the aim of the orchestra, the soloist and the conductor to present the two different strands of Romanticism in a sensitive and sophisticated way: in the first half of the concert, works by Janáček and Brahms will lead the listener toward musical images of light beauty with veiled sadness lurking beneath the surface, while in the second half, emotions will flow openly and unbridled with one of the greatest cello concertos in music literature.
