A róka a filmet rendező Adrian Goiginger dédapjának igaz története, aki motoros hírvivőként szolgált az osztrák hadseregben. A II. világháború idején a zárkózott fiatal fiú mellé egy különös társat rendel a sors: egy elárvult rókakölyköt talál az erdőben, aki hűséges társául szegődik, és akit, ha kell, az élete árán is megvéd. Különleges barátságuk a fiatal férfit a múltjával való szembenézés felé vezeti.
