The peerless opera diva of our time, Anna Netrebko has enjoyed several triumphs at Müpa Budapest since her first visit in 2016. Although she has collaborated with the conductor Michelangelo Mazza on many occasions for both opera productions and concerts, this performance by the Russian-Austrian soprano, despite her decades-long career, still comes as a sort of debut: her very first time ever singing the soprano part in Verdi’s Requiem!

Like Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese is passionately in love with New York City. There is no doubt, however, that Scorsese sees a different city. His is dirtier, edgier, and slightly more full of crime and criminals. Scorsese’s home turf is Little Italy, in Lower Manhattan. In 2026, Müpa Budapest will be spotlighting Hungarian jazz talent through the Jazz Showcase for the nineteenth year running. Alongside established performers, countless young artists have been introduced in recent years to dazzle the jury and captivate audiences. Now, for this special occasion, they return as a one-of-a-kind big band, like members of a large family.

The ensemble formed by singer-pianist Tamara Mózes and keyboardist-composer Zsolt Kaltenecker is constantly looking for unique ways to blend jazz, pop, rock, electronic sounds, progressive elements and improvisation.

Miles Davis, one of the most recognisable figures in jazz history, would have celebrated his hundredth birthday in 2026. To mark the occasion, a star trumpet player in the world of contemporary jazz, Ambrose Akinmusire, has come together with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra to embark on a joint tour, honour the giant of the genre, pay tribute to his legacy, and go beyond it by creating new works and inventive arrangements that reimagine the Miles Davis’s genius in the context of modern jazz.

Taking the stage together with one of the world’s most celebrated orchestras at this concert will be two illustrious sons of musical families: Paavo Järvi, who hails from a family of conductors, and Alexandre Kantorow, a pianist born to violinist parents.

In 2024, Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra returned to perform at Müpa Budapest. The night was one big party. Was it what we would call folk punk? Balkan rollicking? Categories are meaningless. Kusturica is very consistent in his use of music in his films. (Sometimes the songs even become hits.)

Among the artists who have already appeared at Müpa Budapest, it is the return of esperanza spalding that has been anticipated longest and most eagerly. As the years have passed, she has become ever harder to pin down, and her sphere of interest now extends far beyond singing and playing the bass: She now defines herself as a composer, poet, dancer, therapist, storyteller, educator, community builder, and even as an advocate for soil regeneration.
