Leopold Auer, violinist, teacher, and composer, began his career in Veszprém and gained world fame for his hometown, which has been paying tribute to his school-building work with a festival bearing his name since 2015.On our walk, we will invoke, to musical accompaniment, the giants of Veszprém’s modern violin art, the city’s vibrant musical life, the years little Leo spent in Veszprém, his trials in the countryside, Budapest, and Transylvania, and, his successes in Europe, St. Petersburg, and the U.S. Violin maker Elemér Sümegi invites us to his workshop, where he shares with us everything he knows about Auer’s favorite instrument, the Stradivarius. Our walk, which also brings to life the Jewish past of Veszprém, ends at the Israelite cemetery and mortuary where we find the remains of Auer’s parents.

Due to the small interior, we can only fit 15 people in the Violin maker’s workshop.
