A Kenyérkereső a 11 éves Parvana történetét meséli el, aki feláldozza magát, hogy megmentse az apját és ellássa a családját. Parvana apja, Nurullah történelmi tényekre alapuló meséket mondott neki gyerekkorában, amikor a lánya 2001-ben segített neki a piacon a talibánok irányítása alatt álló Kabulban. Amikor az apját letartoztatták, Parvana az egyetlen, aki még akkor is keresi, amikor mindenki más már feladta.
