Eternal Light
Strange as it may sound, there are some funeral masses which are always a pleasure to listen to. They give us strength, uplift us and encourage reflection; they offer consolation. Antonín Dvořák's Requiem is one such piece, though it is unfortunately heard far less often than, for example, the masterpieces of Mozart and Verdi. One of the Czech composer's most important works, it was written at the peak of his career, in the period of his life when he also composed the New World Symphony and the American Quartet. The piece journeys across the full spectrum of moods, from silent devotion to captivating ecstasy, and, with its wonderful melodies typical of the composer, was not written for liturgical purposes, but for performance in concert halls. Alongside the orchestra, the concert also features the Hungarian National Choir, which is celebrated for its Romantic oratorios, alongside superb vocal soloists.
It is no secret that Swedish double bass player Anders Jormin and American drummer Joey Baron are two of 2024/25 Artist of the Season Ferenc Snétberger's favourite musical partners.
It is probably impossible to summarize this miraculous story of Mowgli, Bagheera who escaped from the cage of the human society, the wise Baloo, the mysterious Kaa or the vengeful Shere Khan. The Jungle Book is about birth and death, solitude and partnership, about the magic of youth – so everything which can happen with a kid who had grown up with wolves.
