The Danish String Quartet made its debut in 2002, in Copenhagen. Since then, they have risen to the rank of the world’s leading quartets, with the New York Times calling their concert a highlight of the year twice. A part of the classical and contemporary repertoire, they regularly play the works of 19th and 20th-century Scandinavian composers.

In addition to classical compositions, the quartet also plays folk music and folk arrangements. Their 2014 record, Wood Works was enthusiastically received, as was the 2017 Last Leaf, which came out under the legendary ECM label.

The concept of Last Leaf was inspired by a 18th-century Danish hymn, a piece with a special atmosphere. The album contains traditional music from the period, both in its original form and in arrangements, and the blending of the classical and the folk mode of playing transports the listener into a dreamy world, both unusual and timelessly familiar.
