Even the name Csángálló, which roughly translates as 'vagabond' or 'wanderer' and whose musical career dates back to 2009, is linked to the fact that he has travelled far away from Ghimeș, the town of János Zerkula. In the last five years he has been enjoying adventures through the dancing quarters of Eastern Europe and the Balkans with his stunning energy, rich in his characteristic style and improvisation. While his music tends to follows less rigid forms and traditional 'assumptions', those who are touched by his liberated nature and unstoppable power are swiftly taken captive, going willingly and full of song...
Čači Vorba was founded in 2006 by the singer and violinist Maria Natanson, who at aged 14 left her family and her classical music studies behind her to travel to the Carpathian Mountains, learning from folk musicians about how to give her music an 'authentic voice', as the name of the group suggests. Maria was then able to create her own style, inspired in equal measure by Romanian and Balkan Gypsy music and Polish village music, jazz and contemporary classical music. Though Maria is not a Gypsy herself, she writes songs in the Gypsy language. She has released three highly acclaimed albums to date (Szczera Mowa, Secret Marriage, Šatrika). The group's sound is built on traditional musical instruments including the Hungarian viola, the Turkish kemence, the Greek bouzouki, the Romanian cobza and the Eastern European goblet drum. They have pocketed awards from German and Polish music critics and played in more than 20 different countries, demonstrating to audiences how cathartic Romanian fusion is born.
