The production was inspired by some of the greatest works of Astor Piazzolla’s rich oeuvre, and the heroine of his well-known tango opera, María, who is not a single person but Womanhood herself in the maze of a metropolis. We see all the phases of life as this staged Passion unfolds: we can see her as a child, a virgin, a lover, a mother, and as a woman taking her leave of life. The story of her misery is revealed by turns in song, verse and prose.

Erika Miklósa is joined by the seven-piece chamber orchestra of Mezítlábas Zenészek, a narrator, and an actor who changes his guise like a chameleon, alternating between a vagabond, a thief, a lover, a pimp, a witch and a prostitute. The scenery of the production, which has been devised for this special venue, will be fashioned by the dancers themselves, who create the milieu and set of the story with the means of physical theatre.
