What is a Háttérzaj? What does it even mean?
Háttérzaj means background noise in Hungarian and we are an independent literary club.
Our zine is called the same and contains writings we’ve worked on together. We always make them for reading sessions, sometimes with themes that are connected to the place we’re doing the reading at.

We like to call ours a zine.
You can make one anyway you like, it is up to your imagination and is a great creative outlet. Nowadays zines play an important role when it comes to self-publishing.
So if you have an idea, a poem or a short story, some photos, or any message you would like to deliver to the world, with a zine you can easily do just that.
Collages, drawings, short stories, poems, do whatever you want and let your creativity run free at our stand.

Why do we give critique?
Does this help me in becoming a better writer/poet?

Our goal with Háttérzaj is to help each other, so we can become better at writing.
We do this by meeting every month and talking through our poems and short or not so short stories.
It works for us, most of us have started publishing, we have our own readings and are the only literary themed self-published zine in Hungary.
So bring your poems, stories and let’s talk them through. You can also participate in some of our writing practices.
